LIFT Philanthropy Partners is a not-for-profit organization that evolved from 2010 Legacies Now, where we leveraged the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games to create social and economic benefits in communities throughout British Columbia. 2010 Legacies Now was established in 2000 as an integral component of Vancouver’s bid for the 2010 Winter Games. Over the last 10 years, we earned an international reputation as a leader in advancing positive and lasting social change. We are considered a best practice by the International Olympic Committee and have shared our social innovation model with cities and events throughout the world.
Over the past decade, we developed and supported more than 12,500 community programs that engaged more than two million people across BC. We leveraged the excitement of the Games to increase access to sport, healthy living, literacy and other community programs. We developed effective partnerships to drive social change, and we elevated community programs and projects to be leaders in their areas of work.
We developed LIFT’s venture philanthropy approach based on successful and impactful social investment models worldwide. These international venture philanthropy organizations have changed the way businesses, governments and individuals invest in social change, and we have adopted their best practices. We are using the experience and knowledge we gained over the past decade to fuel our venture philanthropy approach to build more effective and sustainable not-for-profit organizations that can create significant social impact in the lives of Canadians. We rebranded our organization to embrace our emerging role as a venture philanthropy organization, and we unveiled our new vision and mission on the one-year anniversary of the 2010 Winter Games as a continuing legacy for Canadians and their communities.
