After experiencing more than a year of physical and emotional abuse by her now ex-boyfriend, Stephanie checked herself into a shelter with her 10-month old daughter, Savannah.
She says that this was one of the most difficult decisions she has ever had to make but she knew it was the right one for both hers and Savannah’s best health and safety.
Stephanie and Savannah initially sought refuge at Yorktown Shelter for Women, a partner agency of Furniture Bank. A few months later, they left the shelter and got their very own apartment. They were so happy to finally have a place to call their own, but didn’t have any essential furniture to furnish their new home with and couldn’t afford to buy any on their own. In fact, all they had in their apartment was a crib for Savannah and a blow up mattress for Stephanie, a contribution from a friend.
Stephanie came to Furniture Bank soon after moving into her new home. She selected a comfortable queen box spring and mattress for herself, a sofa where she can relax and spend time with Savannah, two dressers and essential kitchen tools and housewares with which to prepare and enjoy meals.
Since receiving their furniture, Stephanie and Savannah are now on track to build a new and happy life together in the comfort of their newly furnished home.
