Furniture Bank

Furniture Bank is a registered charity and social enterprise that receives donations of gently used furniture and household goods from individuals and corporations, and provides them to people who have recently transitioned out of homelessness, women and children escaping abusive situations, refugees and newcomers to Canada. Furniture Bank operates the Leg Up employment program to provide work experience, life and skills training, and employment opportunities to youth, newcomers to Canada and other individuals facing barriers to employment. Participants are employed in its operations, including in the furniture warehouse and call centre, on pickup and delivery trucks, or as administrative and IT support, providing the organization with a valuable source of skills. Furniture Bank also engages corporate partners for out-placements, so participants are provided with opportunities to move on to full-time employment.

Lift Plan

Our partnership with Furniture Bank was announced in May 2015. Over 18 months, we will work with the organization to build its capacity, scale its programs for greater impact, and increase revenue from its social enterprise, as well as identify other revenue opportunities. This, in turn, will help increase job creation opportunities for participants of the Leg Up program. Additional details on our LIFT plan will be posted here in the coming months.
