Bruce Dewar

President and CEO

As President and CEO of LIFT, Bruce leads the organization into the field of venture philanthropy to support social purpose organizations to become sustainable and more effective at delivering measurable social impact in Canada.

Bruce has more than 30 years of experience consulting with private companies, public agencies and not-for-profit organizations, including international projects spanning 12 countries. As a precursor to LIFT, Bruce spent twelve years as Chief Executive Officer for 2010 Legacies Now, an organization dedicated to creating inclusive social and economic legacies around the province leading up to and beyond the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Bruce is applying the key learnings around change management, strategic planning, and capacity building to SPOs in the LIFT portfolio.

Bruce previously served as President of a Vancouver-based consulting firm where he assisted private companies and public agencies to develop and implement strategic plans, often in response to times of great transformation. Bruce sat as a director for the Vancouver Board of Trade, the Whistler Centre for Sustainability, Tourism Vancouver, and the Hong Kong Canada Business Association. He also chaired the boards of the Laurier Institute, Vancouver, Coast and Mountains Tourism Region and the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, along with BCIT’s International Trade and Transportation Program Advisory Committee.

Bruce holds a Master of Science in Management of Technology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has guest lectured at various post-secondary institutions in the areas of international business, entrepreneurship, and cultural tourism. He has also presented to international delegates at conferences worldwide on the importance of delivering social legacies around major sporting, cultural and other events.
