BC Ideas: partners in social innovation
Posted by: Nicole Mezzarobba
BC Ideas launched today to ask British Columbians to share their ideas to address the health, social and environmental challenges facing BC communities. This online competition is more than a simple community engagement effort; it is a community of like-minded people and organizations working together to make our province stronger. BC Ideas is a community of action with innovation and collaboration at its core.
LIFT’s journey with BC Ideas began back in November 2011 when Premier Christy Clark announced a new partnership to support an online competition to engage British Columbians in a social innovation dialogue. Since then, we have worked with our partners to engage a greater number of organizations to support, promote and participate in BC Ideas. The BC Ideas partnership continues to grow as we connect with more organizations that see the value of investing in new ideas and strategies to address social challenges, improve well-being, and strengthen society.
BC Ideas is hosted on Ashoka Changemakers’ online platform, which promotes collaboration and information-sharing between entrants, experts and other participants. The BC Ideas website features interviews, blog posts and live chats with leading social innovators and entrepreneurs from across Canada. By promoting collaboration, BC Ideas will explore new ways of developing, investing in, and increasing social impact across BC.
The competition entry period is open until September 12 and we have more than $100,000 in funding available to the most promising, innovative and impactful ideas. We hope you will join the BC Ideas community and share your solutions for stronger BC communities. From established programs, to simple, yet brilliant ideas, we all have a part to play in the future of British Columbia. Together, we can turn BC’s brightest ideas into province-wide social change.
